Visit of HRH the Crown Prince to POST Luxembourg's logistics center at Findel

26 March 2021

On Friday, March 26, 2021, POST Luxembourg was honored to welcome His Royal Highness the Hereditary Grand Duke, accompanied by the Minister of the Economy, Franz Fayot, for a visit to POST's logistics center in Luxembourg-Findel.

As part of the development of POST's logistics business, Serge Allegrezza, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Claude Strasser, Managing Director of POST Luxembourg, welcomed HRH the Crown Prince and the Minister of the Economy, Franz Fayot, to POST Luxembourg's logistics center on Friday, March 26, 2021. During the visit, POST presented the development and prospects of its logistics business and outlined the various stages of the supply chain, not forgetting to address the impact of the health crisis.

Since 2017, POST Logistics has been offering end-to-end logistics solutions from East Asia to Europe. Located on the premises of the former Cargocenter within the airport zone, the POST Logistics center occupies a surface area of 6,500 m2.

Parcels arriving by air from East Asia at Findel are sorted and coded by POST. They are then cleared through customs and prepared for final shipment to their destination in Europe, which is carried out by road freight in collaboration with respective local partners.

All stages of the logistics chain are completed within 24 hours by POST Logistics teams, which can employ up to 50 people, depending on workload. While a large proportion of shipments are destined for the three neighboring countries, POST also handles large volumes for the Netherlands, Denmark and Sweden.

During the launch phase of this activity in 2017, POST processed an average of 4,000 shipments per day. For 2020, more than 14,000,000 parcels were processed: the average daily volume exceeded 56,000 parcels, with more than 130,000 shipments on certain peak days.

Sales of POST Luxembourg's logistics business since its launch:

  • 2017 : 3 M
  • 2018 : 15 M
  • 2019 : 39 M
  • 2020 : 44 M

In addition to these international logistics and customs clearance services, POST has developed a range of services tailored to companies active in e-commerce.

Under the banner of "E-Commerce fulfillment services", POST offers full storage, packaging and shipment of goods to the end customer, as well as returns management. This offer is aimed at international e-commerce players as well as local shops and businesses of all sizes.

Since November 2020, POST Luxembourg has also been centrally managing Hôpitaux Robert Schuman’s stock of medical items and devices (excluding medicines), which includes over 2,000 different items. Based on daily orders sent in by hospital departments, POST teams prepare an average of 150 orders, which are then delivered the same day, before 2pm.

In the context of the health crisis, POST's logistics department managed the logistics center at corona.letzshop.lu for storage and order picking and coordinated the packaging and distribution of masks to companies and part of the population. POST currently manages the centralized stock of masks and gloves for COVID-19 test centers.

During the visit, Claude Strasser, Managing Director of POST Luxembourg emphasized, "The continuous decline in letter volumes has led POST to identify and develop new business lines. Our logistics business, launched in 2017, has developed well beyond our expectations. This applies both to the international supply chain side and to specific services for e-commerce, particularly local logistics solutions. The recent takeover of centralized inventory management for Hôpitaux Robert Schuman (HRS) is a fine example of this."

The Minister of the Economy, Franz Fayot, welcomed POST's diversification strategy in logistics: "As a leader in the telecoms market and a long-standing player in mail distribution, POST Luxembourg has achieved its objective of developing its logistics business as a further pillar of its diversification strategy. The strong growth in logistics activity highlights POST's ability to establish close links with international partners, while competing with well-established players. This development testifies to the strengths of the Grand Duchy as an intercontinental logistics hub in Europe.
